|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Sustainably Grown|
Domaine Dominique Mugneret is situated in the heart of the Côtes de Nuits in Burgundy, in the legendary village of Vosne Romanée (home to the famous vineyards Romanée Conti, La Tâche and Richebourg). It was founded in 1935 and three generations have brought their own skill and knowledge to the vineyards and winery, and it is now helmed by the fourth generation. They have a humble 6-hectares, but they produce wines from ten reputed appellations across three communes with all of their vines averaging 50 years of age. They grow 95% pinot noir with small amounts of aligoté and gamay for their Passetoutgrain. Dominique took over for his father in 1999 and tends the vineyards according to organic principles, without an official certification yet. He ferments on indigenous yeasts and only uses natural composts, avoiding the use of herbicides and pesticides. This cuvée is from Nuits-Saint-Georges and is a special selection from older vines from two Villages-level plots: Les Fleurières and Aux Herbues. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak barrels (25% new) for 16 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. It has classic pinot noir cherry notes but also a ton of sultry dark fruit and earthiness with smooth tannins. Sustainably grown.
