|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Sustainably Grown, Low-Intervention/Natural Wine, Vegan|
One of our favorite New York producers, Eminence Road Farm Winery marches to the beat of its own drummer. Based in a converted cow barn in the mountain valley of Long Eddy, NY, on the western edge of the Catskills, Eminence Road is, in a way, a Finger Lakes winery. All of their wines are made from sustainably grown Finger Lakes grapes, fermented with native yeast, and bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered with the only addition being a minimal amount of sulfur for stability. ‘Five Dots’ (“Dots” stands for “days on the skins”) is 100% pinot gris from the Cayuga Lake Vineyard in Ovid, NY, on the western shore of Cayuga Lake. Grapes were crushed, destemmed, and macerated for five days, before fermentation occurred with native yeasts in stainless steel. The wine underwent full malolactic fermentation, then was racked of lees in August 2020 and gravity bottled without fining or filtration. This juicy orange wine offers up flavors of ripe cantaloupe, apricot preserves, and hints of tropical fruit, with balanced acidity and a kiss of tannin-y texture on the finish. Sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
