One of our favorite New York producers, Eminence Road Farm Winery marches to the beat of its own drummer. Based in a converted cow barn in the mountain valley of Long Eddy, NY, on the western edge of the Catskills, Eminence Road is, in a way, a Finger Lakes winery. All of their wines are made from sustainably grown Finger Lakes grapes, fermented with native yeast, and bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered with the only addition being a minimal amount of sulfur for stability. This pinot noir comes from grapes grown by second generation grower John Leidenfrost and his daughter, Elizabeth, on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake in Hector, NY. ‘Elizabeth’s Vineyard’ boasts western exposure and thin silt loam soils over shale, which produces wines of great depth and structure. Light-to-medium bodied and Loire-inspired, this offers up generous aromas of cherries and wild raspberries. On the palate it is crunchy and brambly, with red raspberry and cherry flavors, and hints of cracked black pepper, crushed herbs, and licorice. Juicy, lively acidity and well-integrated tannin enhance the savory, food-friendly aspect. Great with a light chill. Sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
