The wines from this tiny hamlet AOC of Jongieux, within the larger Savoie region of France, are rarely found outside of the area. One reason: the locals and tourists are enjoying these wines immensely and keeping them for themselves! The region lies in southeastern France, due east of the grand city of Lyon and south of Geneva, Switzerland. The climate is best described as alpine, with vineyards spread throughout the region, often clinging to hillsides in slightly warmer zones. Most of the production is white, although there are reds and sparkling wines as well. The dominant grape is jacquère, a productive grape known for its aromatics and crisp acidity. Domaine Eugène Carrel et Fils is family owned and operated, currently in its sixth generation of winemakers that dates back to 1830. This wine is a classic expression of the Savoie, light, dry and refreshing on the palate with delicate citrus and orchard pears notes, a floral overtone and a slightly mineral, crisp finish.
