|Grapes||Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia|
|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Certified Organic, Low-Intervention/Natural Wine, Vegan|
Over a century ago, Polish nobleman Michele Dzieduszycki moved his family from the imperial court of Vienna to Tuscany and started making wine. Fattoria di Sammontana’s vineyards are situated along the hills bordering the Arno River, about 20 km southwest of Florence, in the Colli Fiorentini subzone. Andrea, the fourth generation winemaker, has transitioned the estate to organic production, becoming certified organic in 2012. “Prunecchio” is the name of an old vineyard on the estate planted with sauvignon blanc, trebbiano, and malvasia. The grapes see a long, gentle pressing, keeping the skins in contact with the juice for a prolonged period of time before undergoing fermentation and aging in stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal SO2 additions. Mineral and a touch smoky, but also herbaceous and packed with umami, this Tuscan white is singular and remarkable. Certified organic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
