|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Biodynamically Grown, Organically Grown, Low-Intervention/Natural Wine, Vegan|
Finca Casa Balaguer is a winery in Alicante that focuses on the “seductive power of natural wines.” They believe natural wines are the gateway to terroir, sense of place, and pure flavors in wines. They say, “the lasting memories of these wines are not stored in the mind, but in the heart.” This passion came from when they traveled to Saint-Émilion and tasted a cloudy, natural wine that was made in a garage and were overwhelmed with inspiration. To further the importance of their terroir, they only work with indigenous grape varietals, including monastrell, garnacha, rojal, tortosina, moscatal, and malvasía, with absolutely no additions other than fermented grape juice (this means no sulfite additions!). They also bottle all of their wines unfined and unfiltered. The ‘Salicornio’ is 100% moscatel that is fermented in concrete that sees skin contact for five days, and it is aged for five months in the concrete on its fine lees. On the nose, it displays stone fruit, orange blossom, and minerality, with the palate being round and textured. It’s very dry with a saline minerality and a wonderfully long finish accentuated by delicate tannin. Organically grown, biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
