The gutedel grape, also known as chasselas, is a local mainstay in Germany, Switzerland (where it is the most widely planted white grape varietal), and Alsace, although far lesser known elsewhere. The fruit for Gertie & Max comes from the small sub-region of Markgraflerland, located within Baden, Germany’s warmest growing region. Its proximity to the Black Forest provides protection from severe weather. This delicate white is clean and tasty, with light floral notes and golden orchard fruit, along with a subtle nutty mineral character and hints of honeycomb and clover. As might be expected from a Swiss varietal, this wine is an excellent aperitif and partner to foods such as cheeses, cream sauces, and fondue - but also fun with light fare such as fish tacos.
