“Inspired by Italy, crafted in California”. That's the motto of Giornata, the brainchild of dynamic husband-wife team Brian and Stephanie Terrizzi. The Paso Robles AVA shares many of the same characteristics as several of Italy’s acclaimed wine regions, and when planted with the same grape clones as those of top Italian producers, results in expressions of iconic Italian grapes with a uniquely Californian inflection. Viticulturist Stephanie and winemaker Brian prefer an Italian-leaning style in the cellar as well, favoring freshness and balance over the intensity and extraction so common to California winemaking. To accomplish this they harvest grapes at lower sugar levels, and use a gentle touch throughout the winemaking process, preserving the wine’s food-friendly acidity and balanced tannin. This barbera is medium-bodied, with intense red cherry and hints of campfire smoke and saddle leather on the nose. A silky texture on the palate lets the bright acidity shine through, along with notes of oregano, thyme, and spice on the finish.
