The Aosta Valley in the northwest corner of Italy is largely separated from the rest of the country, by the surrounding Alps as well as by language (the region is largely French-speaking). The Grosjean family has cultivated grapes on the lower slopes of the valley for generations, making wine originally to take with them up to the high mountain passes where they tended their cattle. The five Grosjean brothers currently in charge of the vineyards continue the family tradition, using only organic fertilizers, no pesticides or herbicides, and employing natural yeasts in the fermentation. 100% gamay, this brambly, dark-fruited, and peppery expression could not be better for bringing to the dinner table!
