The Guillon-Painturaud family owns 18 hectares of Ugni Blanc vineyards located in one plot around the farm they have been living in since 1610. They started selling the family's cognac under their own name in the early 1970s instead of selling in bulk to the big houses. The distillation know-how has been passed from generation to generation and now an energetic young woman, Line Guillon Painturaud, is running the family business. She is one of the very few woman master distillers in Cognac. This VSOP is aged for 15 years, which is well-above the minimum requirement (3 years), is distilled on the lees, and does not see the addition of caramel, sugar, or boisé, which are common in other Cognacs. It opens with aromas of ripe orchard fruits, particularly apples and pears, along with notes of peach, caramel, butterscotch, cacao nib, baking spice, and a touch of smoke. The palate displays many of these, along with fresh citrus zest and pastries, with a long, elegant finish.
