Brothers Piersabino and Giancarlo Favati devote their vineyards to the grapes best suited and most closely associated with their home region, the ancient province of Irpinia. While greco di tufo may stem from a grape variety brought from Greece thousands of years ago (hence its name greco), it is now cherished as an indigenous grape of southern Italy. In Campania (the region around Naples), greco bianco is known as greco di tufo, after the village of Tufo, north of Avellino. Hence, the local name for the grape is the same as the name for the denominazione. For this Greco di Tufo DOCG “Etichetta Bianca” (white label), the Favatis have selected the grapes harvested from the northernmost area of the vineyard. After maceration on the lees, this wine ages in glass for six months to increase minerality, softness, and persistence. Full-bodied and creamy, it balances floral honey flavors with refreshing acidity.
