The Taurasi DOCG takes its name from the town of Taurasi, in Campania, east of Naples. I Favati’s “Terzotratto” Taurasi draws from the same vintage as their Aglianico d’Irpinia IGT but spends more time in oak. Longer ageing brings out the preserved fruit and smoky savory flavors a well-handled aglianico can provide. In this particular example, anise and tar mix with loads of raspberry and blackberry fruit, along with minerality and a touch of oak. Fine and lasting tannins overlay a velvety texture. At once rustic and sophisticated, this wine perfectly expresses its origins in world-class fashion. At ten years old, this wine is coming into its prime.
