Arguably the finest producer in the Rheinhessen, Klaus-Peter Keller took over his family’s estate in 2001 and specializes in bottling single-vineyard old vine riesling. The Keller family immigrated to Germany from Switzerland hundreds of years ago and has owned parts of the Dalsheimer Hubacker vineyard since 1789. Their knowledge of centuries of winemaking history in the region has led them to rediscover forgotten plots that yield world-class wine. The combination of historic, mineral-rich vineyards and Klaus-Peter’s non-interventionist approach in the cellar has resulted in wines hailed as the “Montrachets of Germany,” defined by their complexity, texture, and weight. Since taking over the estate from his father in 2001, Klaus-Peter and his wife Julia have dedicated the vineyards to organic farming methods and the winery to low-intervention winemaking. The focus has shifted toward drier styles of riesling, with truly spectacular results from their single-vineyard, grosses gewächs cuvées. Here we can offer a taste of Keller’s famous Kirchspiel vineyards (where most of the grapes for this wine are drawn from) for a fraction of the price. This release represents a fun, backyard picnic version of a Keller riesling, bursting with bright lemon-lime flavors over a mineral foundation. Organically grown, vegan.
