Arguably the finest producer in the Rheinhessen, Klaus-Peter Keller took over his family’s estate in 2001 and specializes in bottling single-vineyard old vine riesling. The Keller family emigrated from Switzerland hundreds of years ago and has owned parts of the Dalsheimer Hubacker vineyard since 1789. Their knowledge of centuries of winemaking history in the region has led them to rediscover forgotten plots that yield world-class wine. The combination of historic, mineral-rich vineyards and Klaus-Peter’s non-interventionist approach in the cellar has resulted in wines hailed as the ‘Montrachets of Germany’, defined by their complexity, texture, and weight. The limited production ’RR’ comes from a tiny 0.33ha island of red soil in an ocean of limestone, lending it a darker, deeper character that sets it apart from its sibling rieslings. Intensely mineral-driven, it displays juicy citrus and succulent stone fruit flavors, along with notes of wet stones, moist clay soil, and a hint of tobacco. An electrifying streak of acidity and the faintest suggestion of residual sugar on the finish complete this multi-layered gem.
