Domaine Kumpf et Meyer was founded in 1997 by Sophie Kumpf and Philippe Meyer, both children of Alsatian winegrowers. They’ve worked organically since the beginning. In 2010 Philipe left, and Sophie continued work at the domaine, assisted by Julien Albertus. Julien began transitioning to biodynamic techniques in the vineyards. The domaine encompasses 16 hectares spread out on 70 small parcels extending 15 km north to south across 5 communes in Alsace. The ‘Anarchiste’ is 100% muscat ottonel, a natural cross between chasselas and muscat de Saumur that was first cultivated in Alsace in the 1850’s. It sees a full 30 days of skin contact and is then aged for 11 months in a demi muid before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulphites. The wine is full of stone fruit character including peach and apricot, with streaks of orange and grapefruit citrus and spice/honeysuckle. It is rounder in body with textured tannin, saline acidity, and a beautifully long finish. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
