Ferrando Vini began in 1890 with Giuseppe Ferrando when he began a mission to introduce the wines of Piedmont to the Valle d’Aosta. The Ferrando family has been producing and trading wine ever since, now in their fifth generation. The founder’s grandson, Giuseppe Jr., began producing Carema, a rare wine named for a town in northern Piedmont made from nebbiolo. Soon after, they built cellars to produce and age this unique “mountain Barolo”, and Carema D.O.C. was established in 1967. The Ferrando wines were actually the first ever wines to be imported by Rosenthal Wine Merchants back in 1980. They produce two Erbaluce di Caluso D.O.C.G. wines, and this one is the “La Torrazza” cuvée. Grapes come from the glacial moraine soils of the vineyards of Borgomasino and are all harvested by hand. This bottling is fresh, bone dry, and mineral-driven, with subtle notes of citrus rind and green apple skin, and a touch of white blossom and honey on the nose. Sustainably grown.
