|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Certified Biodynamic, Low Intervention/Natural Wine, Vegan|
The Melsheimer family has grown incredible riesling on some of the steepest slopes of the Mosel for five generations, and this bottle perfectly exemplifies their impressive combination of winemaking acumen and terroir. Thorsten Melsheimer took over the 200 year old family estate in 1994. First beginning with organic viticulture, by 2009 all vineyard work was practiced according to biodynamic principles, with Demeter certification in 2013. Thorsten’s vineyards are situated on some of the most formidable terrain of the Mullay-Hofberg hill, on slate and quartzite soils that have been home to vineyards since the 12th century. The 2014 vintage was unique for its extremely low yields: harvested on October 20, many grapes had fallen from the vines within the space of three days. Complex and focused, with dense layers of juicy apricot, spice, and slate. Defined mineral structure provides a firm foundation for a high wire balancing act of sweetness and acidity, with a savory, saline finish that goes on for miles. Standout back vintage Mosel riesling. Certified biodynamic, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
