The Il Paradiso estate was purchased in the 1950’s by Manfredi Martini and his wife, before Brunello was even a true DOC region. It is run by three generations of the family, and they make incredibly soulful, certified biodynamic wines using indigenous yeasts, long macerations, and long aging in large Slavonian oak botti (this Brunello being between 36-40 months). They don’t use any herbicides or fertilizers, a philosophy of the winery long before the days of “natural wine” being a buzzword. This wine shows incredible finesse, elegance, character, and depth while being the epitome of classic for a Brunello di Montalcino. It displays red cherry, rose petal, sweet spices, herbs, autumn leaves, tea, and licorice on the nose. This is a wine that takes time, open early and experience the transformations in the glass throughout its journey. The 2012 is drinking wonderfully today, but has the capacity to age for decades. Perfect for someone looking to build their cellar! Certified biodynamic.
