|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Organically Grown|
Pascal Doquet is a pioneer of organic farming in Champagne. In a northerly, wet region of France, as Champagne is, tending to vineyards without recourse to chemical fertilizers and herbicides can be especially challenging. Doquet is well known for his enthusiastic commitment to maintaining the health of his fields naturally. This “Diapason” non-vintage release celebrates Doquet’s Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Bottled in April 2010 and disgorged in March 2018, it combines 61% of wine from the 2009 vintage with 39% of reserve wines. Le Mesnil chardonnay is known for its spicy notes, and this example delivers, with aromas of ginger and anise. Vanilla, lemon, and peach flavors follow, with creamy, nutty richness over a chalky base. This is a Champagne that will continue to improve over the next few years. Organically grown.
