|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Organically Grown|
Based in the mountains of Taurasi, Campania, Quintodecimo produces indigenous wines of exceptional quality through meticulous vineyard siting, organic farming, and precise winemaking using traditional methods. Owner, winemaker and professor Luigi Moio was born into an historical family of winemakers in Campania dating back to 1880. After an extended stay in France studying viticulture and winemaking, Luigi returned to Italy in 1994 and in addition to teaching at the University of Naples, undertook the task of winemaker at various prestigious Italian wineries. The urge to break out on his own and make the highest quality wines possible in his beloved home land became too strong to resist, and in 2001 his dream became a reality and thus Quintodecimo was born. Luigi is a perfectionist and loves to experiment rigorously in order to get the best results possible, and he aims to enhance aromatic compounds and increase aging potential by using selective extraction, controlled maceration, and oak aging. The ‘Via del Campo’ perfectly expressed all the fruity and mineral character of falanghina, all of which comes from a single vineyard located in Mirabella Eclano. It shows bright golden apple character with a hint of tropical fruit, herbs, and flowers with some salty and mineral tones on the finish. It also shows a touch of toasty character from its fermentation in small oak barrels. It is drinking beautifully today, but this is a wine that will develop wonderful complexities after a few years in the bottle. Organically grown.
