Originally trained as a nurseryman, Rafael Cambra became intrigued by winemaking, so he studied oenology in France and started his very small bodega when he discovered a 40-year old monastrell vineyard in the Valencia DO of Spain. He was convinced he could produce exceptional wines with the proper grapes, and he spends nearly all of his time in his vineyards and in his lab where he experiments with blending. Encouraged by the success of his first vintages, he began working on others, including this value wine made from garnacha tintorera, known more commonly as alicante bouschet. Cambra cuts no corners here, working with low yields and hand-harvested fruit. It is aged briefly in used oak barrels, developing texture and balance. This red is full of black fruit, plum, and spice, offering a balanced finish with smooth tannins. Certified organic, vegan.
