Ryme Wine Cellars is the project of husband and wife team, Ryan and Megan Glaab, founded in 2007. They have old world sensibilities as well as an admiration for California’s terroir and sunny disposition. To allow the wine to express themselves, they use no cultured yeast, no temperature control, no enzymes or any other adulterants and always bottle their wines unfined and unfiltered. The grapes for their cabernet franc comes from the Alegria Vineyard just south of Healdsburg in the Russian River Valley, which is made of mostly ancient field blends from the 1800s; the cabernet franc was planted in 1990. This is a somewhat cooler area to be growing cabernet franc but the intention was to make a somewhat lighter-bodied example that embraced the herbal and floral qualities of the grape. A beautiful red with some clove spice, cedar, and dusty cocoa, around a core of cherry and lavender. It undergoes partial carbonic maceration, lending a juicy fruitfulness but finishes dry with mouthwatering acidity and firm tannins. Sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
