The origins of Schlossmühlenhof date back to 1846, with the sixth generation tending the estate since 2015. The Michel family is part of the new wave of producers that are farming more consciously, lowering yields and producing dry style wines that the domestic (and international) market craves. Although they have no legal certification, they have converted their vineyards to organic farming practices. This orange wine is composed of 80% müller thurgau and 20% silvaner from 25 year old vines planted in calcareous clay soils. The whole clusters macerated for 12 weeks before fermentation occurred spontaneously in stainless steel, lending a gentle, yet distinct tannin structure. The flavors are clean and dry, with hints of grapefruit, pear, and a dash of white pepper and spice on the finish. A refreshing choice for orange wine lovers looking for something on the lighter side, as well as a great “gateway bottle” for the orange wine novice.
