Stefan Vetter has developed a kind of cult following, for his careful work in his terraced vineyards above the Main river, for his biodynamic farming methods, and for the depth of flavor that results in the wines and ciders he produces. When it comes to wines, he is known for a singular focus on the white wine grape sylvaner: the aromatic interest of Vetter’s sylvaners has brought renewed attention to the winemaking possibilities of the Franconian region. Along with sylvaner, Vetter also produces a line of stunning, unique ciders. His apple “Cidre” comes from five different apple varieties, all particular to Franconia. His “Quitte” is made from quinces that grow in the vineyard. This natural pear cider comes from just a few old trees scattered through the orchard. 2019 was only the second year the trees produced enough fruit to merit a cider of their own. Tart and complex, with a floral lift along with a rustic sourness, this is a cider worth savoring. Biodynamically grown.
