The Tenuta Beltrame began in 1991, when the Beltrame family established the estate in a seventeenth-century manor in the middle of Friuli, northeast of Venice. The region’s mild climate, moderated by the nearby Mediterranean, allows the grapes to ripen longer and develop a particular depth of flavor. Here the Beltrames have blended three different clones of pinot nero (Italian for ‘pinot noir’), hand-picked at full ripeness during the first week of September and aged 12-14 months in stainless steel. A rich red color in the glass, this medium-bodied pinot opens to aromas of cherry liquor, earth, and cedar spiciness. Subtle but structured tannins frame flavors of red berries and chocolate, with a persistent finish.
