|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Organically Grown, Vegan|
Ernesto Catena is a fourth generation winemaker of Italian descent who spent time working as a designer before founding Tikal. A devoted scholar of Renaissance humanism, he was inspired to become a self-described “poeta del vino”, merging art and nature into every aspect of his winemaking. Ernesto and his team designed their biodynamic farm and vineyard to reflect the poetic nature of life while remaining in harmony with the environment. Their vineyards are located at an average elevation of 3150 ft in the Paraje Altamira appellation of Mendoza’s Uco Valley. These ungrafted high elevation vines average 44 years in age. Fruit is hand harvested, with part of the wine fermented in roll fermenters. All of it is matured for 14 months in French and American oak barrique (60% new, 40% second use), and is bottled without fining or filtration. This full bodied, dark, and luscious malbec is classic in profile, suavely melding generous layers of black and purple fruit with hints of wildflowers, oak spice, and salted dark chocolate. Smooth tannins provide just the right amount of structure, leading to a long, clean finish. Organically grown, vegan.
