Troupis Winery is located at 700 meters in elevation in the heart of Mantinia in the Peloponnesian region of Fteri. The Troupis family has a long history of agricultural work, beginning back in the 1970s when vines, fruit trees, and flowers were grown and sold from the family nursery. Like many traditional Greek families, they made wine for their own table, eventually expanding their efforts into the commercial realm. Today, Tasos Troupis, along with his children, manage the family estate of 16 acres of vines. Hoof & Lur is Troupis's homage to the old school style of winemaking practiced for generations in the region – the wine of their grandparents and great-grandparents. Made from the native moschofilero grape, this wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation using native yeast, and sees a slight amount of skin contact, which lends texture, weight, and complexity. It sees no oak and is bottled unfiltered with little to no sulfur added. Tangy tangerine pith, wildflower pollen, and honeycomb flavors meld together deliciously on a medium-bodied palate that features lip-smacking acidity and a nutty, saline finish that goes on and on with just a kiss of dusty tannins. Sustainably grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
