Tuthilltown Spirits Farm Distillery opened in 2005 and was the first whiskey distillery in New York since Prohibition. The Tuthilltown Gristmill, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, used waterpower to turn grain to flour for 220 years, and now is the micro-distillery. Ralph Erenzo, one of the founders, is also a writer/commentator whose pieces have been featured in national media including The New York Times. His work at the State level has resulted in the passage of the Farm Distillery Act, which permits New York farms to establish distilleries on site and sell their agricultural spirits at the farm, which has caused a huge boom of farm distilleries in the state. The Hudson Baby Bourbon is made from their Hudson New York Corn Whiskey that’s put into a first-use charred American Oak barrel. The barrel aging gives it a light, balanced sweetness in addition to the naturally sweeter profile imparted by the 100% corn whiskey, with defined flavors of roasted corn, marzipan, and vanilla.
