Create an accountTuthilltown Spirits Farm Distillery opened in 2005: the first whiskey distillery in New York since Prohibition. The Tuthilltown Gristmill, a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, used waterpower to turn grain to flour for 220 years, and now serves as the micro-distillery. Ralph Erenzo, one of the founders, is also a writer/commentator whose pieces have been featured in national media including The New York Times. His work at the State level has resulted in the passage of the Farm Distillery Act, which permits New York farms to establish distilleries on site and sell their agricultural spirits at the farm, which has caused a huge boom of farm distilleries in the state. Tuthilltown's Manhattan Rye is known for its spiciness, with a peppery start transitioning to a honey-cinnamon depth. It makes such a good Manhattan that they named it so!
