Talk about wine for the pandemic moment, in a very now format. Notice the mini donkey kicking the coronavirus molecule on the label: that’s Luna. This can of sparkling red wine is here to make a statement. Winemaker William Allen and his partner Karen Daenen focus on small-batch wines made from Rhône varieties generally hard to find in California. For this experiment of a wine, Allen not only carbonated some Yolo County cinsault rosé but combined it with 25% carbonically macerated carignan. The result, at 10.5% ABV, is bright, fresh, and ready to go anywhere. Alder Yarrow of Vinography called it "one of the two canned wines that are worth a damn." Bright and refreshing, it displays vivacious notes of red and black currant, mulberry, wild blueberry, tart cherries, and crushed herbs.
