Union Sacré was founded by two friends from different continents who met in California’s Central Coast. Xavier Arnaudin is an oenology degree holder from France who went on to work as cellar master or assistant at some of the Central Coast’s more prestigious wineries, while Michigan-born Philip Muzzy got his winemaking experience at Proof Wine Collective. Union Sacré is a celebration of their friendship, a showcase of Central Coast fruit, and a hat tip to Alsace, France. ‘Le Confident’ is their principal red, 100% cabernet sauvignon from Santa Barbara’s Happy Canyon. The vines are planted between 500-1500 ft in elevation and the 2017 vintage was one that allowed for full ripening without sacrificing acidity. Well balanced at 13.8% alcohol, this spends 10 months in 70% American oak, resulting in a bold, smooth wine which opens with lush aromas of black raspberries, blackcurrant, and baking spice. Deep and rich on the palate, generous flavors of blackberry, wild raspberry, currant, tobacco, incense, and toasty vanilla keep going layer after layer to a smooth finish.
