Free Wine Tasting - Saturday

We feature three wines perfectly suited for the transitioning weather and accompanying cuisine. A crisp Italian pinot grigio, a rosé from Provence, and one of our favorite New York state wines from our neighbors at Whitecliff Vineyard in Gardiner provide some inspiring companions for whatever you've got planned. Whether you're baking, grilling, or just sipping a glass on the porch, these wines will do the trick!

Scarpetta Pinot Grigio delle Venezie IGT 2013
Country: ITALY / Region: VENETO / Appellation: DELLE VENEZIE IGT / Varietal(s): PINOT GRIGIO --- Light straw color with just a hint of salmon, this wine offers aromas of white flowers, stone fruits such as apricot and peach and a touch of minerality. Crisp and dry on the palate, with food-friendly acidity, and flavors of stone fruit, lavender, honey, pear, white flower, and minerals, this pinot grigio is great for sipping on its own as an aperitivo or with appetizers like prosciutto. It also makes an excellent accompaniment to raw fish, such as sashimi or pesce crudo, as well as with chicken, pork and baked fish dishes.

Domaine Sainte Lucie Rosé "MiP" Côtes de Provence AOC 2014 - SUSTAINABLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: PROVENCE / Appellation: COTES DE PROVENCE AOC / Varietal(s): CINSAULT+SYRAH+GRENACHE  --- In this transitional season, at least part of every day feels like the perfect weather for rosé; this is one of our favorite finds! Domaine Sainte Lucie was founded in 1979 by Michel Fabre, and at that time consisted of eight hectares at the foot of Mount Sainte Victoire. The winery has since been expanded and developed to its present 45 hectares, farmed sustainably (the vineyards are leased to a shepherd in the fall whose sheep do their magic in helping revitalize the soil). You have to see the color of this rosé for yourself, it's pale pale pink, almost translucent. One whiff, and you'll realize that the nearly absent color doesn't translate to flavor... this will be one of the rosés you'll turn to again and again this spring and summer to fully realize that winter is over.

Whitecliff Vineyard Gamay Noir New York State 2013
Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: NEW YORK STATE / Varietal(s): GAMAY NOIR --- The gamay grape is most often associated with the Beaujolais region of France. Michael and Yancey Migliori have been working with this grape for roughly twelve years, experimenting at first, then increasing plantings after initial success. In Beaujolais, winemakers often ferment the wines using a process called carbonic maceration, which can create a distinct bubble-gummy/banana aromatic. This wine is entirely different. Whitecliff does not use carbonic maceration; instead, they allow the fresh raspberry and delicate floral nature to shine through. This wine is so well made, it is one of our favorite New York state wines. The palate is light and refreshing, with just the right amount of cherry fruit for the season. Serve this with a chill all spring and summer and see how good local wine can be.
