Château de Passavant Anjou AOC Blanc 2013
Country: FRANCE / Region: LOIRE VALLEY / Appellation: ANJOU AOC / Varietal(s): CHENIN BLANC --- Château de Passavant is located in South Anjou in the Haut-Layon area, near the Layon River. The vineyards stretch over 55 hectares that have been farmed organically since 1998, and biodynamically since 2011. Claire Lecomte, Olivier Lecomte and François David have been managing the estate since 1993, as the fourth generation of vinegrowers managing the family castle. This white is produced exclusively from the chenin blanc grape, often called pineau de la Loire. Hand harvested, dry and aromatic, this is a beautiful example of the Anjou appellation: elegant, with a luxurious texture on the palate coupled with delightfully persistant minerality. Notes of ripe pear, beeswax and flowers are balanced by bright acidity and cool minerality, making this wine ideal for pairing with a multitude of foods in this season of warm days and cool nights we're enjoying.Try it as an apéritif, or with grilled trout, seared duck breast, or warm goat cheese toasts with lightly dressed frisée.
Tensley Grenache Central Coast "Los Padres" 2013
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: CENTRAL COAST / Varietal(s): GRENACHE --- One of the rising stars of California winemaking, Joey Tensley gained his reputation by focusing on single vineyard syrahs and Rhône blends from Santa Barbara County. However, in addition to those vineyard-designated wines, Joey also makes some fantastic everyday wines under Tensley's second label, Los Padres. This delicious, food-friendly grenache displays aromas of red berry, Asian spices and sandalwood, with more deep cherry and plum notes on the palate, accented by zesty white pepper, licorice and baking spices. Well-made and well-priced, its velvety texture, balanced acidity and silky tannins on a languid finish make this a luxurious match with goulash, white bean and kale stew, or mac and cheese!
