Wrath Sauvignon Blanc "Ex Anima" Monterey 2013
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: MONTEREY / Varietal(s): SAUVIGNON BLANC --- The Thomas family purchased the well-regarded San Saba Vineyards in 2007 and set out to make their own mark on the California wine industry. Michael Thomas and his mother are working together, creating wines that speak of site rather than a specific style. They are allowing the cooling winds that sweep through their vineyards to determine the direction of each wine. Ex Anima, or "from the soul" in Latin, is a line of wines from Wrath that feature minimal intervention in the winemaking process, and no new oak, allowing the wines to express the individual character of the vines, the maritime climate and gravelly soils upon which they are grown. Grapes are harvested at two different ripeness levels and two lots of wine are produced. Both are blended together for the final wine, allowing a full range of flavor to be captured. This sauvignon blanc is complex and vibrant, with a powerful bouquet of fresh-cut grass, honeydew, kiwi, grapefruit and herbs. A lively palate of poached pear, lime, passion fruit and gooseberry is delicately accented by lingering minerality evocative of fresh rain on rocks, and a clean finish. Delightful with seared scallops with mango-lime salsa, or spinach salad with goat cheese toasts and citrus vinaigrette.

Vegas Altas Tempranillo Ribera del Guadiana DO 2015 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Country: SPAIN / Region: EXTREMADURA / Appellation: RIBERA DEL GUADIANA DO / Varietal(s): TEMPRANILLO --- Ribera del Guadiana is located in Extremadura, a region in southwestern Spain on the Portuguese border. Extremadura has been known as a place for bulk wine production, but some pioneers are producing unique, tasty new wines there, and Cerro La Barca is the first organic producer in the region, helmed by winemakers Juan Sojo and Ángel Luis González. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats where the wines naturally decant without filtration until bottling, this tempranillo displays deep, dark fruit. Dry and earthy, it possesses a beguiling creamy texture and succulent baking spices on the finish. Great with Southern classics like black eyed peas with ham hocks and collard greens.
