It's produced from an obscure grape called folle blanche, sometimes gros plant. Jean Pascal-Aubron’s family has been tending vineyards near the Atlantic Coast since 1843. Although they mainly grow melon de bourgogne (the grape that gives us Muscadet), they also produce a small amount of folle blanche. The vines are planted in volcanic granite, fermented in stainless steel, and left on the lees for three months to further enhance the depth of flavor. Folle blanche is a robust, high-acid grape that yields an amazingly refreshing white wine in the Loire: crisp, zesty and so bright you might need to break out the sunglasses! Notes of lime zest, limestone, white flowers and a touch of beachy salinity, this wine is as bracing and clean as a lemon wedge in a glass of cold water. Bound to be your go-to white for summer, few wines will bring more pleasure during the warmer months.
