Domaine Meix Foulot Mercurey AOC 2015 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: BURGUNDY / Appellation: MERCUREY AOC / Varietal(s): CHARDONNAY --- Domaine du Meix Foulot has been run by the de Launay family for several generations. Paul de Launay took charge during the 1960s and was joined by his daughter, Agnes, in 1990s, who is now at the helm. Among the most picturesque of Burgundy's domaines, Meix Foulot is perched high atop a hill overlooking the entirety of Mercurey, and possesses an impressive collection of vineyards, 90% of which are planted to pinot noir, with the remainder dedicated to chardonnay. These vineyards are managed as naturally as possible, without herbicides, and rare application of natural compost fertilizer. 100% chardonnay, the Mercurey Blanc isn't bottled until 12 months after harvest, and results in a delicious, old-school rendering of a Burgundian classic. Richly aromatic, this displays white flower, orchard fruit, spice, and nut elements that blossom lusciously in the mouth, emerging as a complex, delicious portrait of elegance. Refined minerality and a beautifully-balanced texture make this a winner with sea scallops with brown butter, capers, and lemon.

Nicolas Haeni "Malmont" Côtes du Rhône Villages AOC Blanc Séguret 2015 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: CÔTES DU RHÔNE VILLAGE AOC / Varietal(s): ROUSSANNE --- Malmont was begun in 2002 while Nicolas Haeni was working at Domaine de Cabasse in the village of Seguret in the Rhône. The Haeni family owned some land in the Malmont section of Seguret – a very remote location at high elevation on very steep clay and limestone soils. In 2005, they started intense terracing work, and by 2006 planting had begun (with hydraulics needed to get vines into the rocky terroir), resulting in four hectares of vines that Nicolas works organically by hand. The 2013 vintage was the first, and the wines from this small parcel are those of great vibrancy and finesse, true expressions of the challenging terroir from which they come. This full bodied white, the 2015 vintage, is made from 100% roussanne, fermented with indigenous yeast, and is a stunning example of the minerality, structure, and crispness of Malmont. Waxy, honeyed notes and wildflower aromas meld luxuriously with juicy white stonefruit and delicate citrus. Opulent in texture, it remains lean and focused on the palate, finishing with characteristic intense minerals. A lovely match with autumn vegetable gratin.

Moric Hausmarke Rot Burgenland 2015 - BIODYNAMICALLY GROWN
Country: AUSTRIA / Region: BURGENLAND / Appellation: MITTELBURGENLAND / Varietal(s): ZWEIGELT+BLAUFRANKISCH+PINOT NOIR --- The mad genius behind Moric, Roland Velich approaches his craft with a passion bordering on fanaticism. Describing himself as "hardcore", Roland comes from a winemaking family, and spent several years working with his brother at the family winery, absorbing the process intellectually, but still not quite finding the inspiration he sought. That inspiration came in the form of Burgundies and Barolos, iconic terroir-driven wines that Roland tasted and which compelled him to examine the potential of wines closer to home. He set out to make an Austrian red that would be the equal of those Grand Cru Burgundies, Barolos, and Northern Rhône masterpieces, using the blaufränkisch, zweigelt, and pinot noir grapes that thrive in the challenging Burgenland region. Old vines, meticulous biodynamic viticulture (Roland chooses not to seek organic or biodynamic certification), militant sorting, and relatively primitive winemaking techniques that echo those used in Burgundy all add up to a well-deserved reputation. Moric wines are indeed in a league of their own, unlike anything else in Austria. Intended as a table-style wine, the Hausmarke is composed predominantly of zweigelt (itself a cross between blaufränkisch and St. Laurent), with blaufränkisch and pinot noir making up the balance. The character of this cuvée, however, is very much blaufränkisch, albeit one with a playful bent. Fresh and lively, this explodes with red berries and cassis, accented with notes of crushed herbs and deep, complex forest floor flavors. An everyday wine that could turn every day into a special occasion! Fantastic with egg noodles with mushrooms and shallots, beef goulash with spaetzle, or cassoulet.
