Eloi Lorenzo "Villa Paz" Ribeiro DO 2015 - NATURAL WINE
Country: SPAIN / Region: GALICIA / Appellation: RIBEIRO DO / Varietal(s): TREIXADURA+ALBARIÑO+GODELLO+TORRONTÉS --- Villa Paz was founded in 1976 by Eloi Lorenzo Pereira, a rural doctor who often did his rounds on horseback throughout the mountains of Spain. Today, it's Eloi's great-grandson, Javier Monsalve, who continues to run the family winery, doing everything from farming to winemaking, as he has since 2007. Located in Arnoia within the Ribeiro D.O., Spain’s oldest growing region, Javier farms 5 hectares as organically as possible while following biodynamic principles. He is also committed to reviving local, sometimes forgotten, grape varietals. Most of Javier's vineyards lie on granite soil particularly favorable to the native treixadura grape. Named Villa Paz (House of Peace), for the house at the center of the winery, Javier's wines all express a distinctive minerality and acidity, allowing the nuances of the region's terroir to shine through. Simultaneously refreshing and beautifully textured, this is aromatic and soft, with notes of ripe yellow fruit and briny sea air. A fantastic aperitif to serve up while putting the finishing touches on holiday dinners, this also transitions well into the meal itself, especially with seafood dishes like shrimp cocktail and paella.
Donkey & Goat "The Gallivanter" Donkey & Goat "The Gallivanter" California 2016 - NATURAL WINE
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: CALIFORNIA / Varietal(s): PINOT NOIR+GRENACHE GRIS+SYRAH --- Jared and Tracy Brandt have been crafting some of the finest natural wines in California since 2003, and are now recognized as pioneers in the California natural wine movement. Much of their knowledge and inspiration was gained by spending the year 2002 in France with famed natural winemaker Eric Texier, where they learned everything they could. The husband and wife winemaking team (who own neither donkey nor goat), are based out of Berkeley, where they utilize wild yeast fermentation, bottling their wines without filtering or fining, and keeping sulfur to an absolute minimum. Their goal is to emphasize the distinctive, soulful qualities of the grapes and vineyards they come from, while producing a wine meant for pairing with food and friends. A blend of predominantly pinot noir, with light touches of grenache gris and syrah, The Gallivanter is fresh and delicious, a clean-drinking natural wine, free of the gaminess and funk that many others display, which makes it even more versatile for the table! Juicy red cherries, bright raspberries, cracked black pepper, and a touch of earth make this a fantastic companion to holiday fare such as pomegranate-glazed wild salmon.

Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: AMADOR COUNTY / Varietal(s): ZINFANDEL --- Easton is located on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada in Amador County, California. Established in 1986 by Bill Easton and Jane O'Riordan, it's also the home of Terre Rouge Wines, with about 30 different wines produced in small lots of 100-400 cases between the two labels. This zinfandel is made from grapes grown on rolling mountain sites that possess the classic, vermilion-colored decomposed granite soil unique to Amador County. The 2013 vintage is full and rustic in style, with luscious notes of ripe blackberry, black cherry, and floral raspberry. Opulent and juicy in the mouth, its bright acidity and balanced, ripe tannins provide a firm, tangy backbone. It all wraps up with a spicy, warming finish, complete with smoky, meaty accents, and hints of white pepper and anise. Perfect for cozy nights around the fire, open this with smoked brisket or chipotle butternut squash chili.
