Celler Masroig "Pinyeres" Montsant DO 2014
Country: SPAIN / Region: CATALUNYA / Appellation: MONTSANT DO /Varietal(s): GRENACHE BLANC --- When drinking white wine in the winter, we're always looking for a bit more than our summer whites offer. More texture, more fruit, more intensity of flavor, any of these will suffice. Celler el Masroig has been making some very well made wines over the years and Pinyeres is no exception. Pinyeres blanc is a selection from old grenache blanc vines grown in the Montsant area, traditionally fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, then aged for three months on lees. Bright golden in color, with intense aromas of ripe white peaches, it displays hints of yeast and toast in the background. Bursting onto the palate with refreshing acidity, it then becomes creamy and bold with a delectably lingering finish. Drink this with fragrant roast chicken, hearty winter squash salads, pasta with cream and morel mushrooms, or with cheese while catching up on Netflix.
Nexo Garnacha Cariñena DOP 2015
Country: SPAIN / Region: ARAGON / Appellation: CARINENA DOP / Varietal(s): GARNACHA --- Established in 1932, Cariñena is one of the oldest legally delimited growing areas in Europe. Winemaking here dates back to the 3rd century B.C. but has been documented throughout history to be an area of great wine production – 1500s monarch Philip II, King of Spain was a huge fan! Nexo brings us ripe garnacha fermented in stainless steel and aged for four months in large old oak foudres (typical of the Southern Rhône). The 2015 vintage was particularly good in Cariñena as the hot, sun-drenched summer helped this garnacha reach peak form. Drink young to revel in the wine’s jammy red berry and spice aromas. Thyme, paprika and even some cinnamon notes give this bottle added layers of depth while smooth tannins make this an easy drinker with lamb burgers or hearty BBQ pulled pork and brisket.
