Domaine du Coing de Saint Fiacre "Cuvée Aurore" Chardonnay Vin du Val de Loire IGP 2015

Country: FRANCE / Region: LOIRE VALLEY / Appellation: VIN DU VAL DE LOIRE IGP / Varietal(s): CHARDONNAY ---  Véronique Chéreau-Günther left the Chéreau Carre family business and took with her the famed 40 hectare Château Côing de Saint Fiacre estate. Old-time negociants who owned several of the appellation’s most respected châteaux for over 200 years, the Chéreau family were legends in Muscadet. Côing is an ancient rendition of “coin” or “corner”, and refers to the corner or angle where the Sèvre and Maine rivers meet and flow into the Loire, where the vineyards lie.  Cuvée Aurore is a compelling chardonnay, almost a cross between a Chablis and a Muscadet in its steely, mineral-driven character. Pure and unoaked, a lovely light straw color reveals a wine of surprising complexity. Aromas of daffodil, acacia, and pear yield to a palate of white peach, winter melon, and gooseberry, with a delicate saline, mineral finish. Light on its feet without sacrificing personality, this is a great new chardonnay to check out this summer- and a great value too! Sure to be a winner with anything from the sea, give this a try with linguine with clams and white sauce.

Gateway Douro DOC 2015
Country: PORTUGAL / Region: DOURO / Appellation: DOURO DOC / Varietal(s): TOURIGA FRANCA+TINTA RORIZ+TOURIGA NACIONAL --- Portugal's Douro region (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) may be the birthplace of port, but is also home to some delicious table wines. With Portuguese wines still flying a bit under the radar, these tend to be excellent values as well, and this new arrival is a case in point. A blend of 50% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Roriz, and 20% Touriga Nacional, these native Portuguese grape varietals benefited from a stellar 2015 growing season, resulting in low yields of excellent quality fruit. Ruby in color, this was fermented in stainless steel, allowing flavors of fresh ripe raspberries, currants, and spice to come through on a silky finish. A versatile choice for pairing with anything off the grill (think lamb burgers or spicy sausages), this also works well for pasta night.
