Waitsburg Cellars Chenin Blanc Old Vine "The Aromatics: Chevray" 2013
Country: USA / Region: WASHINGTON STATE / Appellation: COLUMBIA VALLEY / Varietal(s): CHENIN BLANC --- Waitsburg Cellars is the collaborative effort of Seattle Times and Wine Enthusiast wine critic Paul Gregutt and winemakers Jon Zimmerman and Ron Bunnell, and this delicious new white displays their Vouvray-esque take on chenin blanc from Washington. The grapes for this cuvée come from 30-year old Upland Vineyard and Roza Hills in the Yakima Valley, and are fermented in neutral oak for four months. Slightly evocative of a barrel-fermented chardonnay, it bursts with aromas of toast, dusty Golden Delicious apple, and hints of lemongrass and beeswax. A luxurious round palate of white peach, caramelized pineapple, and dried apricot yields to a bone dry finish with touches of warm lime peel and biscuit. A lovely accompaniment to flaky white fish, tofu stir fry, or quiche. [DAILY DEAL]
