Señorío de Sobral Albariño Rias Baixas 2017
Country: SPAIN / Region: GALICIA / Appellation: RIAS BAIXAS DO / Varietal(s): ALBARIÑO --- Proprietor Alberto Lago’s family has been committed to making wines from the albariño grape for over a century. The winery itself is located in the subzone of Condado do Tea, along the shores of the Miño river, in a 15th century castle which once belonged to the Horsemen of Malta. This area has a unique microclimate with soils of clay and river stones which help retain both moisture and warmth, influencing an expression of albariño that is like a summer breeze in a glass. Pleasant citrus and mineral notes give way to smooth, balanced texture and a long finish. Just a slight chill on this wine really complements the delicate aromatics. This just screams out for oysters or other cool, briny shellfish! It might be winter outside, but we can still sip a little summer sunshine!
Indret Priorat DOQ La Morera de Montsant 2015 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: SPAIN / Region: CATALUNYA / Appellation: PRIORAT DOQ / Varietal(s): GARNACHA+CARINENA+CABERNET SAUVIGNON --- This family-owned estate was founded in 1996 by Josep Gomez and his wife Teresa. Located at the highest elevation in Priorat (approximately 900 feet), the dry-farmed grapes here ripen much later than anywhere else, resulting in a mid-October harvest. The entire process is done in sustainable fashion, with organic certification pending. Estate-bottled, from the "Barranc de la Bruixa" vineyard, fermentation takes place in concrete, with 15% of the wine then aged for 5-6 months in oak barrels. This "gentle giant" is a more elegant take on Priorat than many others from the region. Food-friendly, with palate-cleansing freshness, spicy, savory dark fruit, and broad, lingering tannins, this is great with braised rabbit with olives and herbs.
