Fjord Vineyard Albarino Hudson River Region 2018 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: HUDSON RIVER REGION / Varietal(s): ALBARIÑO --- Fjord Vineyards is the creation of Casey Erdmann and Matthew Spaccarelli, winemaker at Benmarl Winery, located across the river in Marlboro. The Hudson River flows through one of the oldest fjords in North America, between Storm King Mountain and Mount Beacon, creating a unique microclimate for high quality grapes. Grown primarily in Galicia in northwest Spain and Monção and Melgaço in northwest Portugal, albariño is also cultivated in several places in California, but Fjord's grapes are the only plantings here in New York! It is elegant and expressive, with enticing soft tropical aromas accented with hints of minerals and beeswax; clean orchard fruit on the palate is perfectly balanced by lively acidity and a hint of spiciness. Great with grilled fish! Certified organic.
Wild Arc Farm 'Checking All the Boxes' Petillant Naturel New York 2018 - SUSTAINABLY GROWN + LOW INTERVENTION
Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: NEW YORK STATE / Varietal(s): MARQUETTE+TRAMINETTE --- Todd and Crystal Cavallo left Brooklyn in the summer of 2016 to try their hand at building sustainable food systems in the Hudson Valley. The couple had limited experience in agriculture, mostly confined to growing tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and hops on city fire escapes, fending off the depredations of spiteful neighborhood squirrels. The fertile Hudson Valley has been a center of New York State's food production for hundreds of years, with a winemaking history to match. Having grown up in northern NYS, Todd and Crystal wanted to show that the granitic soils and Atlantic/Catskills-influenced microclimates of the Hudson Valley can produce world class wines. Beginning with ten acres, this small, biodynamic, permaculture-focused farm is making outstanding wines and ciders from locally sourced apples and grapes while waiting for their own vineyards to come of age (likely around 2020.) Made from co-fermented marquette and traminette grapes, this is the juiciest pet-nat you'll come across this summer! Throw together a last minute picnic and kick back with this refreshing new sparkler.
Eminence Road Farm Winery "Acidalia" Finger Lakes Elizabeth's Vineyard 2017 - SUSTAINABLY GROWN + LOW INTERVENTION
Country: USA / Region: NEW YORK STATE / Appellation: FINGER LAKES / Varietal(s): CABERNET SAUVIGNON+MERLOT --- One of our favorite New York producers, Eminence Road Farm Winery marches to the beat of its own drummer. Based in a converted cow barn in the mountain valley of Long Eddy, NY, on the western edge of the Catskills, Eminence Road is, in a way, a Finger Lakes winery. All of their wines are made from sustainably grown Finger Lakes grapes, fermented with native yeast, and bottled by hand, unfined and unfiltered with the only addition being a minimal amount of sulfur for stability. The grapes for this bottling come from grower John Leidenfrost's Elizabeth’s Vineyard on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. This is a 50/50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot that starts its fermentation in one-ton bins but finishes in old French oak barrels, undergoing full malolactic fermentation. It has bright red and dark fruit on a lighter-bodied frame with streaks of graphite and a tart, silky, brett-tinged finish. Perfect with grilled cheese with bacon and fresh heirloom tomatoes! Sustainably grown, low-intervention.
