Domaine Paul Blanck Pinot Blanc "Classique" Alsace AOC 2018 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: FRANCE / Region: ALSACE / Appellation: ALSACE AOC / Varietal(s): PINOT BLANC --- The Blanck family has been established in Alsace since the late 16th century, and active in the wine business in Kientzheim since the early 19th century. Cousins Frédéric and Philippe took over for their fathers, Bernard and Marcel, in 1984. They all work hard together to produce wines of quality with distinct Alsatian terroir. Philippe is passionate about human relations, and is the president of the wine tourism commission of the independent Vignerons de France, while Frédéric is a man of few words, always presiding over and nurturing his wines in his cellar. They say, to know Philippe, listen to him talk about his country, his wines, and his desire to make people more aware. To know Frédéric, drink his wines because his entire being and soul go in them and one can understand his person in his wines. Their vineyards are harvested by hand and free of fertilizer; methods are employed to encourage soil health and fauna. Pinot blanc is a genetic mutation of pinot noir, different from pinot grigio/gris, and these grapes come from gravelly clay soils with some limestone. It is immensely refreshing and interesting, with aromas of apricot, brioche, peppery pear, and a touch of lemon and honeysuckle. Crisp on the palate with pleasant acidity and a long, mineral finish. A lovely match with grilled trout. Biodynamically grown.
Birichino Vin Gris California 2018
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: CALIFORNIA / Varietal(s): GRENACHE+CINSAULT+ ROLLE+MOURVÈDRE --- Birichino Winery was founded in 2008 by Alex Krause and John Locke. Fruit sources are focused on older plantings, often from non-grafted vines that are more expressive of the natural character of the grapes. The pair have been making wine for several decades not just in California but also other countries including Italy and France. This California vin gris pays tribute to the traditions of Provence, blending Alpine grenache from El Dorado county in the Sierra Nevadas, 128 year-old vine cinsault, rolle, and mourvèdre, fermented with native yeast to produce a crisp, focused rosé that’s a versatile match for food. Light cherry blossom pink in color, with aromas of roses, stone fruit and berries, this wine is structured and dynamic, with notes of crushed herbs, wild strawberries, and citrus zest. Fragrant and bone dry, this rosé makes a lovely companion to grilled, fried, or fire-roasted seafood. Or just grab a baguette and some creamy cheese and make a picnic!
