Land of Saints Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2016 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: USA / Region: CALIFORNIA / Appellation: SANTA BARBARA COUNTY / Varietal(s): CHARDONNAY --- Land of Saints is a collaboration between Angela and Jason Osborne (who also own A Tribute to Grace Wine Company) and Manuel Cuevas (winemaker at C2 Cellars). They come from three very different places: Cornwall, England; Central Coast, California; and Auckland, New Zealand. Their love of California and Santa Barbara unite them, but the name Land of Saints is another name for Cornwall, as holy people gathered and lived there during the period known as “the age of saints” around 410 A.D. California is also the “land of saints” because there are at least 33 Sans and Santas, so the name seemed perfect. The grapes come from rocky, calcareous limestone and clay soils in Sta. Rita Hills, and the wine is styled after Meursault. Barrel fermented (30% new French oak) and matured in stainless steel. Balanced acidity gives this wine a bright nature, showing crisp orchard and citrus fruit with honey on the nose and palate. Follow the underlying richness and buttery mouthfeel to a long, creamy finish with a hint of nuttiness. Fantastic with seared scallops with brown butter. Sustainably grown.
Ca' de Noci "Tre Dame" Rosato Frizzante Emilia Rosato IGT 2018 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC + LOW INTERVENTION
Country: ITALY / Region: EMILIA-ROMAGNA / Appellation: EMILIO ROSATO IGT / Varietal(s): SGAVETTA --- Brothers Giovanni and Alberto Masini established Cà de Noci in 1993 on their family’s farm, where their father Vittorio had planted the first vines in the 1970s. They had a desire to plant grapes native to Emilia-Romagna that were slowly disappearing, such as spergola, malbo gentile, montericco, and rare varieties of lambrusco. This rosé is made with two of those ancient grapes, sgavetta and termarina, that they planted in 2003 on the high hills in Broletto, characterized by calcareous Apennine soil. The name “Tre Dame” means “Three Ladies”, and is named so because the rosé comes from three demijohns. After a short period of skin contact and fermentation in vat, a natural second fermentation occurs in the bottle, giving the wine lively, small bubbles. It is bright, dry, and fresh, with some barnyard flavors coming through behind tart raspberry and just-ripe strawberry tones. Great with BBQ chicken, tomato sandwiches, or any late summer picnic fare. Certified organic, low intervention, vegan.

Winemaker Olivier Minot is the force behind this incredible cuvée. 100% gamay from southern Beaujolais, the grapes are harvested from 90 year old vines, fermented and aged in concrete tanks, and bottled with minimal sulfur. Fresh-picked cherry, raspberry, and candied strawberry flavors mingle with spicy, woody notes of black tea, tilled soil, and forest floor. Sophisticated yet totally quaffable, this is a far more serious wine than the label indicates, and in a 1L bottle, a serious value too!
