Von Hövel Riesling Feinherb Oberemmeler Mosel 2014 - ORGANICALLY GROWN
Country: GERMANY / Region: MOSEL / Appellation: MOSEL / Varietal(s): RIESLING --- Max von Kunow assumed von Hövel in 2010, taking over for his father Eberhard, and has nearly doubled the vineyard holdings while at the same time converting the entire estate to organic. Located in Konz-Oberemmel, a side valley of Saar in the Mosel, they operate out of a 12th century manor house, which initially served as an abbey retreat for the famous wine monastery of St. Maximin in Trier. Max’s father also did not produce any dry wines at the estate, entirely favoring sweet wines, but Max chooses to do both and always encourages indigenous yeast fermentations for all. He is meticulous in the winery, allowing certain grapes to see some skin contact while others do not, being very particular in choosing what goes into which of his cuvées. The 2014 Oberemmeler Feinherb was fermented in both stainless steel and neutral oak, macerated between 24-36 hours, and is one of Max’s best wines from the 2014 vintage. It’s savory and citrusy, salty and snappy with a dry-like finish. The residual sugar contained in this wine broadens the texture, heightens the aromatics and extends the length. Great with halibut and sweet potato chowder! Organically grown.

Domaine de la Patience Coteaux du Pont du Gard IGP 2018 - CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Country: FRANCE / Region: RHÔNE VALLEY / Appellation: COTEAUX DU PONT DU GARD IGP / Varietal(s): MERLOT --- One of the best kept secrets of the southern Rhône is the town of Nîmes. Just 30 miles from the Mediterranean, the town enjoys the coastal influence in the midst of Roman architecture, including a small coliseum still in use. This family estate is located in the Costières de Nîmes between Nîmes and Avignon. After managing the winemaking at a local cooperative for a decade, Christophe Aguilar began to make his own wines, organically farming 60 hectares of vines in the same soils his grandfather farmed 50 years ago. The estate name refers to “la patience”, an aromatic wild herb growing throughout their vineyards. This pure merlot is soft and generous, the fruit having taken in the warm Mediterranean sun. Destemmed and vinified in tanks, it is aged for three months in concrete. In classic French fashion, this cuvée is dry and fragrant with rocky, garrigue notes. Aromas of ripe plum, baking chocolate, and sweet wild herbs yield to a plush palate bursting with ripe blackberry, plum, and currant, before finishing with layers of herbs and minerals. An easy sipper with a simple cheese plate or great with pasta with mushrooms and olives. Certified organic.
