|Vineyard/Cellar Practices||Organically Grown, Low-Intervention/Natural Wine, Vegan|
Alessandro Job and Lavinia Monrreale’s vineyards sit on the Pozzuolo plateau in Friuli, at the far northeastern corner of Italy. The layers of the plateau contribute to a unique combination of soils, including sand, silt, clay, sandstone, and marl. Before taking over his family’s property, Alessandro studied business management and engineering, and Livinia worked in marketing. Shifting to the making of natural wines with the signature grape varieties of Friuli meant devoting attention to the geologic history of the site and to a style of winemaking that would best express that terroir. They traveled throughout Italy and to the Loire and found they preferred a natural style, using spontaneous fermentation and without filtration. Lavinia and Alessandro welcome the participation of the bees, grasses, and birds in the flourishing of their vines, which they restrain from trimming, defoliating, or thinning. This light-bodied red, made from the grape known as refosco dal pedunculo rosso, brings out the variety’s spiciness. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
