Emily Campeau and Christoph Müller met during the wine harvest season of 2018 in Austria. They got married the following harvest season, between foot-stomping pinot noir grapes for this rosé on a Friday and pressing them the following Monday. Wein Goutte uses grapes grown biodynamically, in Austria and Hungary, by Weingut Weniger, where Christoph also works as a cellar master. Though their wines are site-specific and carefully crafted, they have decided to declassify their cuvées for the time being (using the designation “Europäischer Wein”) for simplicity’s sake. But don’t panic! Panic on the Boat is a flavorful rosé with a unique depth of flavor. Christoph and Emily blended that lightly-extracted, wedding-weekend pinot noir with direct-pressed zweigelt and aged the two together for 11 months in large barrels. Redolent of violets and cedar, this muscular rosé bursts with acidity and bright flavors of red berries and pomegranate. Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
