Weingut Friedrich Becker is continuing a rich tradition of farming in the Pfalz. The family has run a multiple-crop farm for many generations, with vineyards, animals, apple, pear, plum, cherry and mirabelle trees. In the middle of the 20th century, it became apparent that the soils and slopes at the edge of the Palatinate Forest offered excellent growing conditions for outstanding wines. In 1973, Friedrich Becker Sr. bottled his first wines with the fox on the label, which has since become the winery trademark. Becker’s Pinot Noir has been consistently recognized as among the best in Germany, helping to solidify the Pfalz region as one to watch for great red wine production. In addition to pinot noir, Becker cultivates a wide variety of grapes, including pinot gris, pinot blanc, chardonnay, riesling, sylvaner, muscat, gewürztraminer, müller-thurgau, portugieser, pinot meunier, and even cabernet sauvignon!

The 2020 Becker Pinot Blanc comes from vineyards that straddle the Franco/German border.  The vines are low yielding, planted on chalky, clay and limestone soils. After being hand harvested, the grapes are crushed and macerated for up to 24 hours before pressing. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and 2400 liter oak barrels and the wine remains on the lees for five months, adding depth of flavor and texture.

A bright white gold in the glass, on the nose, delicate nutty aromas play with lemon blossom and Meyer lemon zest and a ‘spring-rain-on-pavement’ type of freshness. The palate walks the line between crisp and round, offering plenty of steely acidity but dominated by pebbles, minerals, Anjou pear and ripe white peach accents.
