Located practically in our own backyard, Whitecliff Vineyard in Gardiner, NY produces a highly respected and diverse portfolio of fine wines. Founded in 1979 by husband-and-wife team Michael Migliore and Yancey Stanforth-Migliore, Whitecliff Vineyard has been one of the leading voices in the Hudson Valley for winemaking. Michael has lived on the property since 1975; he studied organic chemistry at SUNY New Paltz and worked for IBM as a chemical engineer; soon after, he began experimenting with grape growing. They now have one of the largest vineyards in the Hudson Valley, with over 20 varietals planted. Blending merlot and malbec is popular in the Southern Hemisphere (particularly in South America and Australia), and it turns out to be successful in New York too! 60% merlot lends black cherry and berry notes, while the 40% malbec contributes brambly, spicy depth and intrigue. Add to that some gentle oak tones of cedar, baking spice, and chocolate, and the result is clean and bright, while still maintaining complexity and a cozy versatility. Sustainably grown, vegan.
