Once thought to be extinct, biancu gentile has stepped back into the sunlight after languishing for years in obscurity. Known for its aromatic character, this uniquely Corsican white variety dwindled to less than one acre under cultivation. Yves Leccia was one of a few winegrowers to seek out the last workable shoots of biancu gentile and to slowly bring it back into wine production. The vines couldn’t be in better hands. Yves comes from a long line of winemaking Leccias, though he has founded his own domaine on a site he picked himself: “E Croce” sits on chalk and limestone soils over a bedrock of schist. He works in the vineyard himself, keeping the yields low, and does the vinifying alone. Here, Yves has blended biancu gentile (40%) with vermentino (60%), aged in stainless steel for six months. Ripe fruit, sea spray, and herbal aromatics make a good case for rescuing biancu gentile, and for Corsican terroir. Certified organic, vegan.
